Summer’s Quiet Fire

These long-light mornings, before we even open our eyes, the Fire energy of Summer is already calling us toward activity.

In the Tactile layer of the home, this looks like things waiting to be done: garden produce that wants to be canned, plants that need deadheading so they’ll produce more flowers, hobby supplies quietly staring, waiting patiently for your hands. Here, things become ripe, ready, wanting movement. This is Tactile Fire in its domestic, embodied form.

The call is gentler in the Atmospheric layer: sounds of morning gaining momentum, a wall calendar with a full penned-in schedule, and morning light reminding us to make time to relax by illuminating a reading chair. Atmospheric Fire activates and illuminates.

The Substantial layer is more about Directional Fire: south-facing windows letting in steady light, materials like terra-cotta, stones, and tiles; and rooms with fire-based purposes (like kitchens) speak earlier in the day in response to the sun. Substantial Fire remains steady and is truly “in its element” this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere.

However it shows up, Summer’s Fire has a way of nudging us into motion. Noticing and moving with these calls, we are aligned and moving with the season.
