I thought it would be fun to take you (dear reader) along with me as a holistic home specialist, one area at a time, through my house. I will assess and improve upon (heal) spaces as I go. Hopefully you’ll enjoy these posts as learning experiences, just as I will.
It occurred to me recently how cold and sterile my glass collection looks, projecting a “look but don’t touch” vibe. I don’t present it as a singular collection but rather scatter pieces here and there, like a minimalist antique store, a careful clutter of objects.
It occurred to me too, that nobody would want to sit at a small round table where at the center is a cluster of pretty pretentiousness. It could be perceived that the objects are to be admired first and foremost – as though they are more significant than the people sitting at the table, even energetically intercepting the conversation! – and it sets a cold atmosphere (however warm the tones).

I got up this morning and went downstairs and took this picture. Pretty, but not inviting. Furthermore, it portrays a sort of emptiness, a sort of lack, perhaps even a hint of a scarcity mentality hiding itself (protecting itself) behind opulence.
And do we ever sit in this beautiful room? No! But we walk through it several times daily, and I turn on the radio and light incense in it. It is our Red Salon. This is a space of literary ego, of fantasy poetry readings that might one day happen but are not high on my priority list.
So anyway, I went to the store and bought some candy and flowers as centerpiece offerings. Better, yes? The atmosphere went from cool to warm and nurturing as my son quietly delighted in filling some dishes. The space was elevated from purely visual to a multi-sensory invitation into a realm of bliss. I often ask myself, “What would Love do?” To answer my own question, Love would do this! And even kids will slow down to smell the flowers and snatch a piece of candy.

It can be difficult for lovers of beauty to see, to experience the truth that, unless one is touring a museum or art gallery or something, beauty of the worldly sort is best in a back seat behind comfort. It is one of my personal aims to work more comfort into my spaces, as part of my philosophy is about function over form.
Relax and enjoy!
We can rework our physical environment so it can mirror the best manifestation of us, rather than where we are, where we would rather be (if not in the moment). Visual affirmations, if you will. Most of us humans are still works in progress.
Have you ever paused to ask what your home is saying about you? What would it need to truly nurture you? If it could speak, what would your healing sanctuary request of you, and how would Love respond to that request?
