Sometimes it happens that a man and a woman get together, make a baby, and it isn’t quite the parents’ dream of a star athlete, a doctor, a lawyer, a professional dancer. Sometimes genetics and the environment entangle and create something radically unexpected. Sometimes the father takes his ego and bolts for a fresh start, leaving the mother to her own devices. A father who remains has a lot of courage, loyalty, integrity, humility, acceptance, and a big heart. If you are this type of great man, thank you. Your partner, the mom of your child, needs your loving support and presence.

Unexpected diagnoses can feel overwhelming and downright devastating. Some clinical professionals admit that it’s like death: death of dreams, death of a life that gets off to a rocky start that it never quite outgrows, like a seed planted in the shade when it needs sunlight to attain its blueprint of destiny and suffers a feeble fate without the light.

I argue that it isn’t death, but a dream that suddenly becomes lucid. The thing about lucid dreams is that we truly awaken in them. We awaken to all that we must cultivate within ourselves to rise to the challenge. Lucid dreams are lived in the present tense, where there are no whys or what ifs. There is no ruminating over what could have been or worrying about what could be. The present moment is LIFE unfolding. It is an ongoing moment that can slide between the brightness of joy and the depths of sorrow. We can lean into joy.

Positive emotions are healing. This has been proven and continues to be studied with intense interest. Love is healing. When we fill our homes with love, they become healing sanctuaries, respites from the world. Thank you, fathers who contribute positively to the physical environment that is the home of your children.

There are no limits to the lengths that loving parents will go in order to bring out the best in their children, some of Earth’s newest expressions of the countless faces of the divine.
